Stock markets in Europe closed mixed on Friday as investors digested manufacturing PMI reports from across the continent, as well as the latest job figures from the United States, which showed nonfarm payrolls in the country increased by 187,000 in August.
The Euro Stoxx 50 ended the session 0.31% in the red and the DAX slid 0.67%. The worst performer on both indexes was Volkswagen, whose shares tumbled 4.18%.
The CAC 40 declined 0.27%. Renault, down 5.73%, led the losses.
Meanwhile, the FTSE 100 climbed 0.34%. Johnson Matthey led the gains, soaring 9.85%.
The euro lost 0.49% against the dollar to sell for 1.07914 at 5:31 pm CET and the pound fell 0.60% compared to the greenback to go for 1.25965 a minute later.
