Russia would be only interested in a prisoner exchange that would include Vadim Krasikov, a Russian citizen sentenced to life imprisonment in Germany, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Unidentified Western officials told the newspaper that Krasikov could be used in a potential swap for United States soldier Paul Whelan and WSJ reporter Evan Gershkovich, who are currently in detention in Russia. However, it was also said in the report that any potential deal could face legal obstacles in Germany that could prevent exchanging a convicted murderer.
Krasikov received a life sentence over the shooting and killing of Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, an ethnic Chechen Georgian who was considered a terrorist by Moscow, in Berlin in 2019.
