Tesla Inc. and Saudi Arabia have entered negotiations about building another one of the company's electric vehicle (EV) plants, commonly known as Gigafactories, in the kingdom, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on Monday.
People familiar with the matter told the publication that the talks have just begun and could go nowhere. The sources also said that the reason behind Saudi Arabia's wish to have a Gigafactory on its territory is easier access to EV manufacturing parts amid its plan to rely less on fossil fuels.
The report came after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan allegedly asked Tesla Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk to order the establishment of a Gigafactory in the Eurasian country.
