The Indian Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday that the country is expelling a senior Canadian diplomat, adding that he has been asked to leave the country within five days.
The ministry explained that "this decision reflects the government's growing concern over the interference of Canadian diplomats in our internal affairs and their involvement in anti-India activities."
This all comes after the Canadian authorities took a similar step while investigating what Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called "credible allegations" against India linked to the assassination of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Earlier, White House National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson expressed deep concern over Trudeau's claims.
