The Indian Ministry of External Affairs warned Indian nationals in Canada and those considering traveling there to remain vigilant in light of increasing "anti-India activities and politically-condoned hate crimes."
The ministry urged Indian nationals and students to "avoid travelling to regions and potential venues in Canada that have seen such incidents" and to "register with the High Commission of India in Ottawa, or the Consulates General of India in Toronto and Vancouver," in order to ensure they can be reached in case of emergency.
The news comes after India expelled a senior Canadian diplomat this week due to suspected Canadian interference in India's internal affairs and involvement in "anti-India activities," following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's accusations of the Indian government's involvement in the fatal shooting of Canadian citizen and Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
