Former United States President Donald Trump said that the recently ousted House Speaker Kevin McCarthy "played right into the Democrats' hands" in the latest government funding negotiations, after which he was removed from his position by his fellow Republicans. Trump said the Republicans and the US at large "gained nothing" from the short-term funding bill McCarthy negotiated with Democrats to avert a government shutdown last week.
"In all fairness to him, he wanted to do what he thought was the right thing," Trump told Just the News in an interview. Earlier this week, Trump said he would accept to become House speaker if GOP lawmakers cannot choose among the existing candidates, before endorsing Representative Jim Jordan for the position.
