The North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said in its unsigned statement on Monday that the modernization of the Japanese self-defense forces is aimed at "preparing for an aggressive war and a new invasion of the Korean Peninsula."
The statement noted that "the yearly-increasing military expenditure, introduction of ultra-modern military hardware for attack including an aircraft carrier and latest stealth fighters, the establishment of military operation posture in space, cyber and electromagnetic field, etc. are all aimed to carry out the war of aggression," adding that the treaty between the US, Japan, and South Korea on joint military exercises is aimed at "practicing a re-invasion" of the Korean Peninsula.
The report concluded by saying that North Korea is "keenly" watching every move of Japan, a "sworn enemy", in its mission to defend peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and in the region.
