Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated on Wednesday that his country will remain opposed to Ukraine's accession. During an interview with Mandiner, Orban reiterated his stance and added that the topic should be taken off the agenda of the EU summit this week.
"The EU is preparing to make a terrible mistake, and we must prevent that even if 26 (members) want to make the mistake," Orban stated. "If we want to give support to Ukraine, a geostrategic signal, then we should, but this is not membership."
In recent weeks, Hungary has clearly stated its refusal, stressing that the issue should not be linked to the problem of the funds Hungary should receive. Over the weekend, Orban briefly discussed the topic with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during the inauguration ceremony of Argentine President Javier Milei.
