The Royal Navy's HMS Diamond shot down a suspected attack drone in the Red Sea, UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps said on Saturday.
"Overnight, HMS Diamond shot down a suspected attack drone which was targeting merchant shipping in the Red Sea. One Sea Viper missile was fired and successfully destroyed the target," Shapps said in a statement posted on X.
This action comes amid a series of hostile activities targeting international commerce in the Red Sea. In that regard, Shaps emphasized the UK's commitment to maritime security and safeguarding global trade routes while describing these incidents as illegal attacks posing a direct threat to international trade.
