United States President Joe Biden responded on Tuesday to former President Donald Trump's victory in the Republican (GOP) caucuses in Iowa, acknowledging that Trump is now "the clear front runner" of the party at this point.
"But here's the thing: this election was always going to be you and me vs. extreme MAGA [Make America Great Again] Republicans. It was true yesterday and it'll be true tomorrow," the head of the White House wrote on X.
According to several local media projections, Trump emerged as the winner of the first 2024 Republican presidential contest with 51% of the votes, while Ron DeSantis came in second with 21% and Nikki Haley claimed third place with 19%. Trump's victory in the Iowa Republican caucus set a new record for the largest margin in history, surpassing the previous gap of 12.8 percentage points with an impressive lead of 30 percentage points.
