South Korea and the United States engaged in talks over Seoul furthering its participation in the maintenance of US military equipment in the Indo-Pacific region, South Korea's Ministry of National Defense said in a statement on Monday.
Lee Gap-su, head of the ministry's logistics management bureau, and Christopher Lowman, US assistant secretary of defense for sustainment, had a meeting regarding the subject during a Pentagon-hosted workshop in Hawaii. The two officials discussed the need for Seoul to engage in defense maintenance, repair and overhaul projects. The companies to be involved in the projects are Korean Air Lines Co., Ltd., Sunjin Entech Co. Ltd., LIG Nex1 Co. Ltd., and Hanhwa Co.
These talks came amid the ever-increasing tensions on the Korean Peninsula, with South Korea and the US deepening their cooperation in order to repel any possible North Korean threat.
