Malaysian oil and gas company Petronas Dagangan Berhad (PDB) confirmed on Tuesday (Oct 25) that an explosion occurred at a petrol station in Johor Bahru, at approximately 3.15pm.
Based on initial findings, the explosion occurred at the station’s NGV compressor
facility during maintenance work.
An emergency response team was immediately mobilised and is working closely with relevant authorities. The incident has since been contained.
The company said that an employee of PDB’s contractor had died in the incident. It said that it would like to extend its sincere condolences to the family of the victim, and that it was investigating the cause of the incident.
Police have confirmed that the incident is not related to any criminal activity, nor does it have anything to do with the deadly fire that broke out at Sultanah Aminah Hospital hours earlier.
"The two are not related," said Johor police chief Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd, adding that the public, as well as members of the media, should avoid speculation.
