"It was once again confirmed that Armenia's claims regarding the Lachin Road and Karabakh Armenians facing a humanitarian disaster are groundless."
MP Konul Nurullayeva said this to Ednews while commenting on yesterday's UN Security Council meeting. She noted that during the discussions at the UN, Azerbaijan's proposal to use the Aghdam-Khankendi road was positively welcomed by the international community, and the necessity of removing the obstacles created by Armenia to ensure the legal and transparent delivery of goods to the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan was once again confirmed:
"Although Armenia tried to blackmail Azerbaijan in the UN Security Council, it failed. Because all the steps taken by Azerbaijan are fully consistent with the norms and principles of international law. It became clear once again that Armenia is trying to manipulate a higher institution like the UN. However, as many members of the UN Security Council emphasized during the discussions, the basis of peace and stability in the region is the recognition of sovereignty and territorial integrity, both in word and deed. Several countries that are members of the UN Security Council, as well as our brother Türkiye, made statements about the necessity of a sincere dialogue and honest interaction regarding the operation of all the routes proposed by Azerbaijan, especially the Aghdam-Khankendi road, in order to meet the needs of the residents of Armenian origin living in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan."
"As stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, it pursues the policy of reintegration of the residents of Armenian descent living in the Karabakh region as equal citizens by ensuring all their rights and freedoms in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of Azerbaijan, as well as all relevant international human rights mechanisms that Azerbaijan supports. As we are committed to both directions, we are determined to protect our sovereignty and territorial integrity by all legal means established in the UN Charter and international law. The whole world community also witnesses that Azerbaijan is interested in advancing the normalization agenda", K. Nurullayeva added.
"Armenia should properly assess the current peace proposal rather than manipulating the UN. Armenia should honestly comply with international legal norms and obligations in this context. Only in such a case, we talk about ensuring sustainable peace in the region", MP concluded.
