South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said on Friday that North Korea is believed to have launched several short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea.
Earlier this week, North Korea warned of a "catastrophic aftermath" should the United States and South Korea conduct their annual joint military drills in August.
The rocket launches come after North Korea fired ballistic missiles into the East Sea on April 22.
