The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Friday that an estimated 630,000 Palestinians have fled Gaza's southern city of Rafah since May 6 after the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) started making advances toward the region.
"Many have sought refuge in Deir al-Balah, which is now unbearably overcrowded with dire conditions," UNRWA said in the statement.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said earlier that additional troops will be deployed to Rafah to counter Hamas militants. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously underlined that the military operation in Rafah will last "a matter of weeks, not months, not years."
