Today 27 years have passed since the occupation of Karkijahan settlement, which is one of strategic important position for Khankendi city and surrounding areas, by Armenian armed forces.
Eurasia Diary announces that on December 28, 1991, the occupation of Karkijahan settlement ended with the occupation of Khankendi.
As a result of self-defense troops blocking the attacks of Armenian armed forces for a while, the civilian population was removed from the settlement.
Before the occupation, the population was 1796 consisting of 350 families. Two secondary schools, one kindergarten, one library, one club, one ATS, 10 shops, a medical ambulance, and other household and catering facilities were destroyed.
34 people were killed and 150 injured in various battles for the Karkijahan and surrounding areas. Three of the martyrs were women and two were children
