The Palestinian Islamic Jihad announced via a Telegram post on Wednesday its participation in talks held in Cairo, Egypt, alongside Hamas and Israeli delegates to address the conflict in Gaza and the West Bank. Several media described the discussions as "intense."
"A delegation from the movement, headed by the Secretary-General, will head to Cairo in the coming days. During the visit, which comes upon an official Egyptian invitation, they will discuss ways to stop the aggression and a prisoner exchange deal," the statement reads.
Islamic Jihad Secretary General Ziad Nakhaleh added that the exchange of prisoners will take place based on the principle of "everyone for everyone" within a political process agreed upon by the forces representing the Palestinian people, led by Hamas.
