Mikhail Galuzin, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, raised concerns over the activities of the EU mission, alleging its involvement in provocative actions against neighboring countries Armenia, Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran.
Galuzin's remarks, reported by Ednews, underscored the perceived secrecy, irresponsibility, and lack of oversight surrounding the EU mission, which he described as a tool in the EU's hybrid warfare strategy.
According to Galuzin, the EU mission's engagement in what he termed as "anti-Russian propaganda" and its portrayal of the EU as a "source of security and prosperity" for Armenia are particularly troubling. He further criticized the mission's purported anti-Azerbaijani activities, alleging inconsistencies with efforts to ensure long-term regional security, stability, and socio-economic development.
Galuzin referenced the activities of a tripartite working group chaired by deputy prime ministers of Azerbaijan, Russia, and Armenia, aimed at enhancing cooperation in the region. However, he lamented that Yerevan's decision to suspend this cooperation was influenced by pressure from Western countries.
The remarks by the Russian Deputy Minister highlight growing tensions and differing geopolitical agendas in the South Caucasus region, as competing interests vie for influence and stability amidst evolving regional dynamics.
