Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said on Tuesday that Israel will keep military control of the Gaza Strip after the ongoing war ends, in a similar way it currently controls the West Bank.
"After the war, when it’s over, I think it's completely clear that Hamas won't control Gaza. Israel will control [it] militarily but won't control it in a civilian sense," Gallant told reporters at a press briefing in Tel Aviv.
Gallant said that the recent Israeli army operation at the hospital in Jenin in the West Bank, when Israeli troops killed three Palestinian individuals who were allegedly preparing a terrorist attack, is an example of military control of the West Bank. "This is achievable [in Gaza as well], but it will take time," he concluded.
