Euronews has prepared a story about the Baku Energy Week, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
EDnews reports, the program notes that the event, held on June 2-4, brought together leaders from the energy sector to discuss issues of global energy security, sustainable development, and energy transition.
Atsuko Hirose, Acting Secretary-General of the Energy Charter Secretariat, stressed the importance of international cooperation and the relevance of universal mechanisms in an interview with Euronews.
"I am confident that our agreement remains extremely important. In December 2024, significant amendments were made to the agreement, covering new areas - hydrogen, ammonia, biogas, biomethane, synthetic fuels, as well as carbon capture, use and storage technologies. These issues were not on the agenda 30 years ago," Hirose said.
Gauri Singh, Deputy Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), warned that efforts to triple the share of renewable energy by 2030 are not enough. Achieving this goal requires annual investments of $1.5 trillion.
Singh noted the rapid pace of renewable energy deployment in China, the US, and the EU, but stressed the importance of ensuring more accessible financing for emerging markets.
"The next decade will be crucial. It is during this period that we must lay a solid foundation to meet the targets for achieving carbon neutrality. Obviously, it is not just about increasing the share of renewable energy. But we also need to strengthen energy networks and the infrastructure that supports them," Singh said.
