The 62nd Session of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies (SB62) concludes today in Bonn, Germany.
The negotiation process has been intense, with Parties working diligently to achieve outcomes. The results of two weeks of discussions and meetings will be announced at the closing ceremony on the evening of June 26.
Progress and disagreements from the Bonn Session, a critical step toward COP30, continue to shape discussions.
On technology, disagreements persist over the functions of the Climate Technology Center. Papua New Guinea argued that its current functions are insufficient and called for changes, while other Parties noted limited time for compromise.
The Mitigation Work Programme (MWP) reached agreement on structure, but disputes continue over references to “the latest scientific findings,” with some countries arguing these are not universally accepted.
Negotiations on the Global Stocktake (GST) also saw divergences, with four different text options complicating consensus. India and the African Group proposed forwarding both texts to the Belem discussions.
The COP29 Presidency actively participated in these negotiations, with Azerbaijan once again demonstrating the strength and efficiency of its green diplomacy. During these intense discussions, the COP29 Presidency skillfully brought all Parties together toward common ground. Mechanisms related to the Baku-to-Belem Roadmap and Azerbaijan’s support for Brazil’s Presidency continue to advance.
