More than 3,000 Azerbaijani Army service members have participated in peacekeeping operations around the world since 1999, Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov said in the foreword to an update on the Azerbaijani Army's peacekeeping operations, prepared jointly with the Center for Analysis of International Relations, EDnews reports.
The minister noted that the work of Azerbaijani peacekeepers has consistently received high praise from the command, various countries, and international organizations.
"Turbulent geopolitical processes and conflicts in various regions demonstrate that the role of peacekeepers is growing. Azerbaijan, as a member of the international community and the UN, supports all initiatives to maintain peace and global security. The possibility of the Azerbaijani Army's participation in various operations conducted by the UN and NATO to help maintain international peace is currently being explored," Hasanov said.
He emphasized that political decisions, the country's will, and the contribution of peacekeeping forces have strengthened Azerbaijan's reputation as a reliable partner and peace-loving country.
The update, in three chapters, presents the theoretical foundations of peacekeeping operations and analyzes their political and military aspects.
