On April 25, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Kaja Kallas, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission.
According to EDnews the meeting focused on a wide range of issues related to bilateral cooperation, regional security, and the EU’s role in supporting peace and stability in the South Caucasus.
President Aliyev welcomed the EU official’s visit and underlined Azerbaijan’s readiness to continue productive engagement with the European Union. He emphasized the importance of further strengthening strategic relations in various areas, particularly in energy, trade, transport connectivity, and political dialogue.
Kaja Kallas, who recently took office as the EU’s chief diplomat, reiterated the European Union’s interest in expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan. She noted Azerbaijan’s strategic role as a reliable energy partner and expressed support for regional peace initiatives and sustainable development.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the post-conflict reconstruction efforts in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, and the EU’s continued involvement as a mediator and facilitator of dialogue in the region.
President Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan’s commitment to long-term peace and regional cooperation, as well as its initiatives to transform the South Caucasus into a zone of stability and connectivity. The sides also discussed prospects for enhancing Azerbaijan-EU relations through new projects and increased political engagement.
The visit of Kaja Kallas to Baku is viewed as a significant step in reaffirming the EU’s interest in the region and further deepening its partnership with Azerbaijan in the current geopolitical context.
