On April 28, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, visited the Bibiheybat Mosque in Baku.
According to “EDnews,” he was welcomed by Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslim Board, and Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee on Religious Associations.
President Pezeshkian was briefed on the mosque’s history, built in the 13th century over the grave of Hakima Khanum, daughter of the seventh Imam, Musa al-Kazim. Revered as a sacred site even before the mosque’s construction, it became a major place of pilgrimage.
It was noted that the mosque was destroyed by the Bolsheviks in 1936 and later rebuilt after Azerbaijan’s independence under the leadership of Heydar Aliyev, with further development by President Ilham Aliyev and attention from First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva.
President Pezeshkian visited Hakima Khanum’s shrine, left a message in the visitors’ book, and exchanged commemorative gifts with Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade during a cordial tea meeting.
