Eurasia Diary presents an exclusive interview with Mikhail Anatolyevich Taratuta, a Soviet and Russian journalist and American scholar. M. Taratuta is the author and host of the popular programs "America with Mikhail Taratuta" and "Ruskie Gorky".
Speaking about how the outcome of the US presidential election will affect the future of ordinary Americans, Mikhail Taratuta said that the impact may be different because the American population is divided politically and economically. It is unpredictable at this time what he will do after leaving the post. An attack on the Capitol could result in up to 15 to 20 years in prison. However, in addition to those who committed hooliganism during the riots, 200-250 people simply followed them and joined the group. Now they will pay for it. Restrictions on Trump supporters' bank accounts, banking services, home rentals and flight services are not ineffective,” he said.
Taratuta noted that for the first time in the United States, voting in the presidential election was carried out by mail. He said there had been cases of election fraud that could have been ignored, but he could not comment. He said of the former US president: "Trump is a difficult person. I have a negative opinion of him as a narcissist, intolerant of failures, rude and strange. But Trump was effective as president. He pursued a reformist policy, doing a number of useful things for the United States. Although it did not reach its goal, significant economic progress was made during his time. The system in the United States was directed against him before he came to power, he reformed the tax system, as well as removed the obstacles to small and medium-sized businesses, and carried out judicial reform. Trump's immigration reform has reduced the flow of illegal people. Biden's suspension of this process will lead to a serious demographic problem. True, Trump has made many mistakes. But it is unfair to nullify what he has done,” he added.
Taratuta touched on Biden's policy on the Caucasus region: "Neither Azerbaijan nor Armenia was interested in Barack Obama and Donald Trump when they came to power. Under Biden, confrontation between Russia and the United States in the Caucasus is expected to increase. Russia will react negatively to rapprochement with the United States. Does Azerbaijan need this? I do not think this is the right step for the region," he said.
