Oleg Yuryevich Kuznetsov, a well-known Russian historian, political scientist and professor, told this to Ednews, while commenting Lukashenka's visit to Russia.
What are the main purposes of the visit? Will Russia sign a new military agreement with Belarus? Because it recently put on the agenda the news about the deployment of some of weapons in Belarus.
Oleg Kuznetsov said that Russia and Belarus of the year 2000 are members of the Common Union State:
“Therefore, there is nothing surprising in the fact that they are currently not only a single and common economic or cultural space, but also a common military-political space and civirate with each other with a pile of military doctrine and concepts. With the conflict around Ukraine, the situation on the Belarusian border also escalated very much, which causes completely natural and reasonable anxiety from the efforts of the authorities and the population of this country. It is not customary to talk about this now, but the darkening fact remains a fact. The armored forces of Poland and the forces of Lithuania's closest neighbors Belarus have long been in a state of high alert. What creates natural threats to the state border with the territory of the integrity and the security of this state.”
“For all this circumstance, Belarus was forced to turn to Russia as its natural strategic allies for military assistance, and the Russian military contingent was visible on the territory of the country,” he added.
Kuznetsov also notes that this entailed additional excavations to the Belarusian border, again beyond the countries of the armed forces of Poland, Lithuania, with which the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko asked the Head of the Russian State Vladimir Putin to supply or deploy tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus:
“How it is done in the United States of America in six countries of Europe. In this sense, Belarus is trying to defend itself, ensure its security and territorial integrity with the use of the Russian armed forces. Actually, this is what Azerbaijan does with the use of the encircled forces of the Republic of Turkey, as well as a cleansing. There is nothing strange, surprising or judging in this. This is normal international practice”
“I think that those actions that are jointly carried out by President Putin and Lukyanenko, they will ensure the security of the Belarusian people insofar as they jointly give an adequate response to all real, as well as potential external threats for the official Minsk and the Belarusian people, which is fraternal and allied for Russia,” he highlighted at the end.
