Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the Russian peacekeeping contingent will leave Karabakh in 2025.
Erdogan noted that the agreement is in this form, and I hope that Russia will adhere to the terms of the agreement:
"My dear brother Ilham Aliyev is also following the issue closely."
While commenting on the speech of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, an analyst on Turkish-Russian relations, Kerim Has, said to Ednews that it depends on the deal that Moscow can reach with Baku and Yerevan:
"First of all, we still don’t know whether Russian peacekeepers will stay in Karabakh after 2025 or not. It depends on the deal that Moscow can reach with Baku and Yerevan. If one of them (namely Baku) rejects Russians staying there more, Moscow should withdraw the peacekeepers according to the trilateral agreement of 2020."
"On the other hand, I think, both presidents Aliyev and Erdogan really want Russian peacekeepers to be withdrawn and leave Karabakh in 2025, and they will try everything to reach this aim", he stressed.
According to him, however, the future status of the Russian peacekeepers will, in reality, also depend on the situation on the ground and a potential peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia:
"So, I think it’s still early to say for certain that Russian peacekeepers will leave Karabakh in 2025."
