The number of people killed in the strong earthquakes in Venezuela has reached 3,899, while 16,740 have been injured, Venezuelan National Assembly Speaker Jorge Rodríguez announced, EDnews informs.
Rodríguez stated that humanitarian aid has already been delivered to 86,794 families, and 16,892 families have been accommodated in 89 temporary camps.
The situation remains critical, with $24 million needed to eliminate the consequences of the disaster. So far, about $9 million has been raised.
On the night of June 25, a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck northern Venezuela. The US Geological Survey later reported two additional tremors of 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude within 40 seconds. The country's leadership declared a state of emergency.
On July 8, the death toll had been reported at 3,685.
