The 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) commenced on July 1 in Seville, Spain, EDnews reports.
Held once every ten years, the conference brings together leaders from 164 countries and 49 international organizations to address the urgent financing challenges hindering the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to AZERTAC, Azerbaijan is represented at the event by a delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov, following the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev.
The Azerbaijani delegation includes the First Deputy Minister of Finance, the Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, the Director of the International Development Assistance Agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Secretary of the National Coordination Council for Sustainable Development, as well as senior officials from the Cabinet of Ministers and the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Economy.
The COP29 President and Representative of the President of Azerbaijan on Climate Issues are also participating in the conference.
On the first day, the head of the Azerbaijani delegation was elected as one of the vice-presidents of the conference during the elections for the president and other leadership positions.
The FfD4 serves as a global platform for mobilizing and aligning financial resources, policies, and international cooperation to support the Sustainable Development Goals.
The conference agenda, which marks the first time such an event is hosted by a European country, includes topics such as debt management and new reform initiatives, improving frameworks and conventions to combat tax evasion in the international taxation system, and integrating climate change and development financing.
