Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova said on Monday that she had received an appeal from Azerbaijani Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva in connection with the detentions in Yekaterinburg, and had also contacted the Russian Prosecutor General's Office regarding the case, EDnews reports.
"The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, contacted me regarding the clarification of the circumstances of the detention, death and causing of bodily harm to representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Russia on June 27. She contacted the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation with a petition to verify the legality and validity of the detention, observance of the rights of those suspected of committing crimes and victims," Moskalkova said.
According to Moskalkova, she is regularly in contact with the Human Rights Commissioner for the Sverdlovsk Region, Tatyana Merzlyakova, who closely cooperates with lawyers and representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Yekaterinburg.
