Konul Nurullayeva, a member of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament), has sharply criticized Armenia's decision to decline a meeting with President Ilham Aliyev during the recent European Political Community summit held in Great Britain. In an exclusive statement to Ednews, Nurullayeva emphasized that Armenia's refusal demonstrates a persistent pattern of avoiding genuine negotiations and undermining peace efforts.
"The cancellation of the planned Azerbaijani-Armenian leaders' meeting, initiated by Great Britain, is yet another example of Armenia's insincerity in the peace process," Nurullayeva remarked. She pointed out that despite Armenia's rhetoric on pursuing peace, the country consistently derails opportunities for meaningful dialogue.
K. Nurullayeva also criticized French President Emmanuel Macron, suggesting his influence might have led Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to obstruct peace initiatives facilitated by countries other than France. "It is evident that Macron did not endorse Pashinyan's participation in the London meeting, as his recent comments during the summit press conference reflected a bias against Azerbaijan," she asserted.
Azerbaijan continues to advocate for a peace agenda and is eager to finalize a peace agreement, President Ilham Aliyev reaffirmed during discussions with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the summit. However, Azerbaijan insists that Armenia must first address issues such as altering its constitution's provisions regarding Nagorno-Karabakh and ceasing territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
"This stance was underscored in recent talks between the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia, facilitated by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington," K. Nurullayeva added. "Azerbaijan's position is clear and steadfast, emphasizing the need for genuine commitment to peace without political maneuvering."
