The monument erected in memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide in the cemetery "Nieuw Eikenduynen" in the Hague, the Netherlands, has been relocated and landscaped.
It should be noted that, this monument was erected in 2007 at the initiative of the Dutch-Azerbaijani Turkish Cultural Association with the financial support of the Azerbaijani and Turkish communities. Our compatriots living in the Hague gather in front of this monument on February 26 every year. They commemorate the victims of the Khojaly genocide commited by Armenians and deliver the realities of Khojaly to the attention of the local and world community.
Ilhan Ashkin, chairman of the Dutch-Azerbaijani Turkish Cultural Association, who initiated the erection of the monument, said that t aking into account the impossibility of gathering many visitors at the same time, the Dutch-Azerbaijani Turkish Cultural Association held talks with the Hague municipality to move the monument to a more suitable place in the cemetery. After the permission, the monument was moved to a larger area, where people move en masse, and the surrounding area was landscaped.
A plaque near the monument contains brief information about the Khojaly genocide in Azerbaijani and Dutch. Now there are conditions for more visitors and better commemorative events.
"The Hague is one of the largest political centers in Europe, and the presence of such a monument here is important in terms of conveying the truth about Khojaly to the international community. As the Dutch-Azerbaijani Turkish Cultural Association, we thank the Azerbaijani and Turkish communities for their contribution to this work, "said Ilhan Ashkin, chairman of the association.
