“One of the main tasks of the groups is to inform the population.”
Ednews reports that Don McDonald, UNDP Technical Advisor said this at the opening ceremony of the project "supporting the safe return of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) through Capacity Building" which is funded by the European Union (EU) and the US State Department and carried out by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in partnership with ANAMA, the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF) and the Mine Advisory Group (MAG), Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA).
He noted that the mine group operates in seven directions.
“The formed teams must be able to conduct a non-technical, and a technical survey, inform about the danger of unexploded ordnance. They must also eliminate unexploded ordnance. As for the teams, they must meet many requirements.”
According to him, the work will be done in many fields.
“With regard to the activities of NGOs, they should be able to search for mines, properly cope with the assigned tasks related to unexploded ordnance. It is necessary to inform the population about mines. In conclusion, he also spoke about the work done by the IEPF in relation to mines.”
