The citizens of Moldova do not support cancellation of the country's constitutional neutrality, Moldovan President Maia Sandu said.
Ednews.net reports citing Interfax "Neutrality cannot defend us [...], but you know that today there is no popular support to change that," Sandu said at a debate panel of the Munich Security Conference.
She also said that despite the impossibility to cancel neutrality just yet, Moldova needs assistance to enhance its defense sector. "Moldova should be part of the new European security architecture," Sandu said.
Sandu reiterated fears of possible destabilization in the country.
According to Sandu, propaganda, cyberattacks and false bomb reports are being used, and all this affects democracy in the country. She noted that Moldova has a long-standing partnership with NATO member states, and is grateful to them.
Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu asked the European Union and NATO at the Munich Security Conference to help Moldova strengthen the defense system.
