Former United States President Donald Trump said at an event in Florida that "our currency is crashing and will soon no longer be the world standard, which will be our greatest defeat in 200 years." The dollar weakened recently as the US reached the end of interest rate hikes and inflation showed signs of slowing.
Trump claimed that the US economy is also "crashing" and that inflation is "out of control" even as consumer prices fell to a yearly growth of 3% in June. He also warned that "China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea have formed together as a menacing and destructive and quite powerful coalition," although it is unclear what coalition he was referring to. He once again called the 2024 US election the "final battle" and promised to "drain the swap once and for all" if elected president.
