The United States National Hurricane Center (NHC) announced on Tuesday that Hurricane Idalia has intensified from Category 2 to Category 4, which indicates an "extremely dangerous" event with possible "catastrophic impacts," as it is close to making landfall on the Big Bend coast of Florida.
Different warnings were raised by the entity alerting on extreme weather conditions that can create "danger of life-threatening inundations" and "large and destructive waves."
Additionally, the NHC reported the hurricane has maximum sustained winds estimated at 130 miles per hour (215 kilometers per hour), with a minimum central pressure of 940 millibars, moving south at 145 km south of Tallahassee, Florida, and 95 km west of Cedar Key in the same state.
