North Korea fired a ballistic missile into the East Sea, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff reported Wednesday.
The report did not yet detail what type of ballistic missile was fired. The range, altitude, or speed of the rocket have also not been disclosed.
Nevertheless, the launch comes amid the annual Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS) military drills that began on August 21 and are set to end on Thursday. Pyongyang has claimed that the drills are rehearsals for an invasion against the country.
