The grain production of European Union (EU) countries decreased by 9 percent last year due to drought.
Ednews reports via zdf.de that the European Statistical Office has announced the grain production data of member countries in 2022.
Therefore, grain production within the EU in 2022 decreased by 26.7 million tons compared to the previous year and fell to 270.9 million tons. The decrease in grain harvest was about 9 percent.
During this period, the largest grain production was in France with 59.9 million tons. This country was followed by Germany with 43.5 million tons, Poland with 35 million tons, Spain with 19.3 million tons and Romania with 18.9 million tons.
The decline in cereal production in the EU is mainly due to drought.
EU countries harvested 126.7 million tons of wheat, 53 million tons of corn, 52 million tons of barley, 7.8 million tons of rye, and 7.5 million tons of oats in 2022. The volume of production of other grains was approximately 23.9 million tons.
