Czech President Petr Pavel said on Monday the rise in support for far-right parties in Europe "cannot be ignored."
"We need to take notice of these voices," Pavel wrote in a post on X, stressing that it is crucial to understand why the popularity of "extremists" is increasing. "However, I believe that the basic values of the European Union in matters of security or democracy will not change after these elections," the president added.
The populist opposition ANO, led by former Prime Minister Andrej Babis, won the European elections in the Czech Republic by gaining 26.14% of the votes and claiming seven seats in the European Parliament. The ruling center-right coalition Spolu came closely behind with 22.2% of the vote.
