The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has opened a criminal case on the fact of premeditated murder with particular cruelty and torture of citizens of Azerbaijan and persons of Azerbaijani origin by employees of Russian law enforcement agencies, the Prosecutor General's Office said. The preliminary investigation established that on the morning of June 27 in Yekaterinburg, employees of the National Guard of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Federal Security Service Sverdlovsk regional branch conducted joint operational-search activities, during which citizens of Azerbaijan and persons of Azerbaijani origin living at different addresses in Yekaterinburg were detained on suspicion of involvement in previously committed crimes.
At the same time, the employees of the aforementioned Russian structures restricted the freedom of the detained citizens of Azerbaijan and other persons of Azerbaijani origin, and during their detention, transportation and detention in administrative buildings, they inflicted multiple blows with blunt objects on various parts of the body. The detainees were tortured and received serious bodily injuries.
As a result of these actions, 60-year-old citizen of Azerbaijan Huseyn Safarov, who was engaged in small business, died at about 03:00 pm local time in the administrative building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Yekaterinburg. His brother, 55-year-old Ziyaddin Safarov, who worked as a taxi driver, was intentionally killed with particular cruelty in the service car of the task force that morning.
According to the results of the forensic medical examination, Huseyn Safarov died of post-traumatic and post-hemorrhagic shock against the background of multiple injuries, including multiple rib fractures. Ziyaddin Safarov died of traumatic shock caused by multiple injuries.
