US presidential candidate and former American leader Donald Trump may supply weapons to Ukraine within the framework of the "Lend-Lease" program and allocate $500 billion for this purpose. This opinion comes from Mike Pompeo, the former director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Secretary of State during the Trump administration (2018-2021).
What is Pompeo announcing with these statements? How valid are his theses? Will Trump sign such a plan? It's worth noting that Trump has consistently expressed his determination to end the war, not to support it, a stance he has maintained since the beginning of the Ukraine conflict.
British political scientist Neil Watson spoke to Ednews on the topic, suggesting this could be a form of posturing:
"During the Shusha Global Media Conference, President Aliyev commented that former President Trump had never launched a war, which is undeniably true. Certainly, he has said that he would 'end the war'. But he is a pragmatic and capricious politician with US interests firmly at his heart. He wants to appeal, through vague statements, to the sector of the American population who support the war against Russia, the ancient American adversary. Also, he sees that if Ukraine did join NATO - an American construct - it could become an American satellite in Eastern Europe and the post-Soviet space. Additionally, the proposed construction of the weapons could be seen as supporting the American defense industry. Like Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan, he can deliver contradictory messages, in this case via Pompeo, to specific audiences. But this is currently posturing and nothing more."
