Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili made his first visit to Azerbaijan in this capacity. He thereby demonstrated the importance that official Tbilisi attaches to Azerbaijan. This can be assessed as the beginning of international relations from regional relations.
The benefits of bilateral cooperation between regional countries have been confirmed in the example of Azerbaijan-Georgia relations. A number of projects have been implemented at the global level on this relationship. Projects such as Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Kars, TANAP confirm this idea.
On January 20, 1990, the communist-Soviet regime attempted to bloodyly suppress the national liberation struggle by sending troops to Baku. However, these events only strengthened the centrifugal desires of the peoples of Azerbaijan and Georgia. This is an honorable event in the history of independence of both countries. Therefore, the common goals and interests that unite Azerbaijan and Georgia create an opportunity to achieve new successes.
Even Armenia's long occupation of Azerbaijani lands could not prevent the development and strengthening of Baku-Tbilisi relations. This behavior of the Armenians has damaged the reputation of the South Caucasus in the international community. Armenia's destructive and aggressive activities could not prevent the implementation of projects in which Azerbaijan and Georgia are joint and participating. On the contrary, it remained outside projects of regional and global importance. This shows that Armenia has no value on an international scale in the implementation of its economic, energy, and infrastructure plans.
The current relationship between the two countries has increased the world's interest in the region even without the participation of Armenia. However, after the liberation of its territories from occupation, Azerbaijan has come up with a new initiative for cooperation in the region.
On April 17, representatives of the Foreign Ministries of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia held trilateral talks on regional cooperation in Tbilisi. The aim of the meeting is to share the views and opinions of the three countries, exchange views on possible areas of cooperation, and lay the foundation for a trilateral cooperation process.
