Russia is showing military successes in Syria, although Moscow is unhappy with the rule of the legitimate president of the republic, Bashar Assad. That was said during a press conference, the US Special Representative for Syria James Jeffrey, reports RIA Novosti.
“They are indeed quite successful militarily in Syria. The problem is that there is no political solution due to problems with Assad. Our job is to present them the way forward through the UN, with the support of the UN,” said Jeffrey. At the same time, he noted that for US support, Russia will have to step aside from cooperation with the Syrian leader.
According to the special representative, recently Moscow has been dissatisfied with the actions of the lawful president of the republic, but so far there is no alternative to it.
He also emphasized that Russia’s main interests in Syria are supporting military bases and its economic investments. In addition, he said, Moscow sees major strategic successes in limited military participation.
Earlier in the United States, Russian actions were called interference in Syrian affairs. According to Christopher Robinson, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Moscow is involved in disrupting peace accords and widening the conflict.
