Hossein Afshin, Vice President of Iran for Science, Technology and the Knowledge-Based Economy, has stated that the country's research infrastructure sustained approximately $300 million in damage during the recent conflict.
According to Iran's state news agency IRNA, Afshin said that the facilities targeted were engaged in the development of emerging technologies with no military applications. He alleged that the attacks were intended to undermine Iran's scientific and technological capabilities but stressed that the country's research infrastructure would be rebuilt.
“We were working on emerging technologies in the country that had no military application, and the enemy targeted Iran’s scientific and technological authority, which will be rebuilt with strength,” Afshin said.
He added that Iran remains committed to advancing science and innovation, emphasizing that investment in research and technology is essential for long-term national development.
“We are striving to become a leading force in science and technology in today’s world because any country that invests in this field will succeed,” he said.
