Ukraine, Russia and the European Commission plan to discuss the date for the tripartite gas talks soon; the meeting will take place this month, and the sides are yet to define the actual day. Interfax-Belarus news agency reported this, referring to Aleksandr Novak, Russian Energy Minister, 112 International reports.
"After the business trip from Vladivostok, we'll contact our colleagues and agree on the time of the meeting. We earlier agreed that the meeting would take place in September. Now, we've got to agree on the date that all three sides would be fine with", Novak said.
The previous round of gas negotiations took place in Brussels in January 2019. Back then, Russia claimed it was ready to extend the actual contract for the gas transit across Ukraine after 2019. Ukraine's the-then Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin replied it was impossible.
n April 2019, Maros Sefcovic, the Vice President of the European Commission said that the next round of trilateral gas talks would be planned for late May, after the presidential election in Ukraine. May 20, he claimed that the EU was ready to resume the gas talks.
Currently, Russian gas is supplied across Ukraine's gas transporting system; this is stipulated by the contract that expires December 31, 2019.
