Azerbaijan's Charge Affaires in Syria Elnur Shahhuseynov has discussed the situation in Syria with Czech Ambassador Vitezslav Pivonka, Report informs referring to the press service of the diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan in Damascus.
"An interesting meeting, during which an exchange of views on the processes in the renewed Syria took place. I express my gratitude to Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Damascus Vitezslav Pivonka," the statement says.
The Czech diplomat was the ambassador of the Czech Republic to Baku in 2014-2018. From 2018 to 2024, he headed the diplomatic mission in Russia.
According to EDnews released by Azerbaijan’s diplomatic mission in Damascus, the two sides engaged in a “fruitful and insightful exchange of views on the ongoing processes in the renewed Syria.” Shahhuseynov emphasized the importance of continued dialogue between diplomatic missions in the region and expressed appreciation for the insights shared by the Czech envoy.
“It was an interesting and constructive meeting during which we exchanged perspectives on developments in the renewed Syria. I extend my gratitude to Ambassador Vitezslav Pivonka for his valuable contribution to the discussion,” the Azerbaijani diplomat stated.
Ambassador Vitezslav Pivonka is a seasoned Czech diplomat with a deep understanding of the region. He previously served as the Czech Republic’s ambassador to Azerbaijan from 2014 to 2018, where he played a key role in strengthening bilateral ties between Prague and Baku. From 2018 to 2024, Pivonka led the Czech diplomatic mission in the Russian Federation, further expanding his experience in regional geopolitics.
The meeting between Shahhuseynov and Pivonka highlights the role of mid-level diplomatic channels in fostering cooperation, sharing information, and aligning perspectives on complex international issues such as the reconstruction of Syria, regional security, and humanitarian response strategies.
While no specific agreements were disclosed, the dialogue is seen as part of Azerbaijan’s broader engagement in Middle Eastern affairs and its commitment to multilateral diplomacy. The Czech Republic’s long-standing interest in stability and development in the region also reflects its ongoing support for international diplomatic collaboration in Syria.
