Azerbaijan and China will actively cooperate in the development of international transport corridors and cargo operations, EDnews reports, citing Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY).
The Memorandum of Understanding signed between Azerbaijan Railways CJSC and China State Railway Corporation is considered an important step for continuous connectivity across Eurasia, while adding new dynamics to Baku-Beijing relations.
The document also focuses on strengthening the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line. The two entities have agreed on developing transport connections along the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars route, which provides access to Türkiye and subsequently to Europe. Through this line, Chinese production centers' access to European markets via Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye will be further accelerated.
Additionally, the parties have agreed to deepen cooperation in the joint development of railway and port facilities, expansion of container transportation across the Caspian Sea, increasing the number of daily block trains, and achieving the passage of ten trains.
Against the backdrop of these objectives, Baku-Tbilisi-Kars is becoming a strategic transport artery connecting East and West with high transmission capacity.
In 2023-2024, modernization was carried out by ADY in the Georgian section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, which is an important segment of the Middle Corridor. This is a significant step towards increasing Azerbaijan's transit potential and enhancing the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor as a whole.
