More than 300 flights were delayed at Indira Gandhi International Airport after a powerful monsoon downpour hit New Delhi on early July 10, according to Flightradar24, a live flight tracking website, EDnews reports, citing TASS.
The delay in departure times averaged about an hour. The Russian airline Aeroflot's Delhi-Moscow flight departed 57 minutes later, according to Flightradar. About ten planes changed their destination and were redirected to land in the cities of Jaipur and Lucknow.
The tropical downpour with strong wind gusts began in New Delhi on the evening of July 9 and continued after midnight. The precipitation caused flooding in many areas of the city.
The India Meteorological Department has issued orange and red alert warnings in the capital, and adverse weather conditions persist. Forecasters predict heavy rains over the next day.
