Ismail Abukar Osman, the Executive Director of the Somali Environmental Development Organization, has expressed strong support for the establishment of the Global South NGO Platform, highlighting its significance in fostering cooperation among civil society organizations from developing countries.
Speaking on the sidelines of the second day of the founding conference of the platform, currently being held in Baku, Osman praised both the initiative and the host country.
“I came to Azerbaijan specifically to participate in the founding of this important platform. I can confidently say that this is one of the most impactful and meaningful initiatives I have taken part in this year. The idea of uniting NGOs from the Global South to collectively address global challenges is both timely and visionary. I wholeheartedly welcome the creation of this platform and would like to extend my sincere thanks to the government and people of Azerbaijan for their warm hospitality and excellent organization,” he told EDnews.Osman went on to share his impressions of Azerbaijan, describing the country as a culturally rich and welcoming nation.
“Azerbaijan has truly impressed me. It is a beautiful country with a deep cultural heritage and incredibly hospitable people. I had previously heard about Azerbaijan’s success in hosting major international events like Formula 1, but now, having experienced it firsthand, I understand why so many people are eager to visit and engage with this nation,” he added.He concluded by expressing optimism that the Global South NGO Platform will serve as a bridge for enhanced cooperation, knowledge sharing, and joint action on environmental and developmental issues facing the Global South.
