An international conference on “Afghanistan: Regional Interactions, Security and Development” was held in Baku under the organization of the State Security Service with the participation of representatives from the security services of 20 countries.
According to EDnews, in his opening remarks DTX Chief Colonel-General Ali Naghiyev described the decision to host this conference in Baku as a continuation of previous meetings on Afghanistan and deemed it an important milestone. He expressed hope that the event would make a significant contribution to the restoration of a centralized Afghan state that fully observes the norms and principles of international law.
Drawing on the long-standing, trust-based ties and deep historical-cultural bonds between Azerbaijan and Afghanistan, he noted that Azerbaijan has always supported international initiatives aimed at ensuring Afghanistan’s internal political stability and security, and has never spared any effort in that direction.Colonel-General Naghiyev also stressed the necessity for the global community to provide comprehensive support to Afghanistan in its fight against transnational organized crime particularly international terrorism, illicit drug trafficking, and irregular migration.
Highlighting that one of the conference’s main objectives was to present a unified front against disruptive forces and terrorist groups seeking to exploit continued instability in Afghanistan, he emphasized the importance of Afghanistan securing its rightful place in the international system and achieving lasting peace. He expressed confidence that regional states and other partners would coordinate and pool their efforts to these ends.
Delegates from other countries also delivered remarks, voicing their belief that the conference would pave the way for more decisive measures to guarantee peace and security in Afghanistan and that the international community stood ready to support the establishment of sustainable stability there.
